We went over the remaining problems today, which mostly dealt with finding surface areas and volumes of specific figures. The student used the Pythagorean theorem effectively.

We went over graphs of polar functions. The student was already proficient at plotting points, but needed help identifying specific conditions that required special graphical characteristics. We went over all polar models and the functions associated with them. I showed him how the layout of the coefficients in the function determines the type of design applied to the graph. We went over several examples, and I had him do practice problems to make sure he had an understanding of the material. He feels ready for his quiz on Tuesday.

The student and I had a great session. We spent our entire time studying for his Chemistry final. He said that's the class he feels the most unprepared for. We spent time talking about molecular geometry, kinetics, thermodynamics, and gas theory. There is a lot of material covered for the exam, so he should make sure to spend time studying each section. I think the best way to study for this exam is to be able to try to sit down and explain to a parent or sibling about each subject. If they can understand the material, then he has a good handle on it.

Tutoring review by Brittany in Orange County, NC
We went over how to find the midpoint and slope of a line as well as how to use point slope form to find the equation of the line. These concepts were applied to various different math problems. The student hadn't learned the material yet in class so she was unsure on most of the topics. I went over the different formulas with the student and told her to make sure she memorizes them for class.

Tutoring review by Kenneth in Orange County, NC
This was our first session working together, and we covered geometric proofs. The student said her main struggle is with the idea of working proofs. We covered a few strategies when it comes to working on proofs, and I supplied her with a pdf file that gives her notes on all theorems and postulates she will need. She has a test coming on Friday, and we will be meeting Thursday to work on proofs further.

Tutoring review by Adetunji in Orange County, NC
We discussed critical reading skills and how to quickly identify and answer key issues like why the author says/does something specific in the text, vocabulary in content, inferences/drawing conclusions, details, understanding of what is explicitly mentioned in the text, inferences/drawing conclusions, main idea/primary purpose, and author's tone. We practiced using these skills and could answer at least 85% of the questions correctly without returning to the passage after the first glance. We had math practice afterwards as well.
