Tutoring review by Ahra in Boys Town, NE
During the session today, we worked on Science and Math. For the science portion, we worked on answering the questions for the packet and for Math, we worked on finding the volume for 3D geometric figures (spheres and cones). The student seemed to have a good understanding of how to use the formulas by the end of the lesson!

The student and I covered solving rational equations (algebra 2). I recommended memorizing the difference of two squares, difference of two cubes and addition of two cubes for his quiz on Tuesday. He understands the process well (i.e. factoring, common denominators, flipping the division into a multiplication and cancelling terms), I believe he just needs more practice. He's going to do his practice quiz before our next session, and I can help him with any questions he may have, as well as do a couple of the problems with him.

The student's main task was to finish the practice problems and be prepared for his particular questions. He is much more comfortable and confidant with the problems then when we started yesterday. We reviewed how to approach the problems and what to remember for his test.

The student and I went over his math today. I checked some of his worksheets for him and helped him through the problems he didn't understand. I explained to him that if a fraction is less than one, he should simply reduce instead of attempting to make the fraction into a mixed number. Other than this, he did a good job on his homework.

Tutoring review by Pamela in Boys Town, NE
This afternoon the student worked mostly on her math homework due on Wednesday. The topic was primarily on the area of circles, as well as on concepts of diameter, radius, and circumference. I encouraged her to refer to her class notes to better understand the relationships among those concepts and their formulas. She did well applying formulas from earlier problems to solving later problems. This understanding is important because as her math gets more formulaic, it's helpful for her to understand the reasoning behind the math. She did very well rounding today, and finished her homework thoroughly. She spent the remaining 15 minutes or so working on her PE homework. We researched the history of volleyball as well as the state of competitive volleyball in the US.
