The student spent most of the session completing her Calc BC homework, so as not to fall behind on her new assignments. We spent the last ten minutes talking about the plan for our upcoming sessions and what I need her to complete for Tuesday and Sunday.

Tutoring review by Arianna in Sausalito, CA
Today we continued to discuss and practice IOPs in questions or negative statements with two verbs. The exercise we practiced had her write two versions of a sentence where the IOP was either before the verbs or after. Her ability to quickly identify the proper IOP improved. She is still struggling with understanding some of the translations for subject pronouns so we will continue to practice it. For next time I told her to memorize all of the subject pronouns and be able to explain the exercise we did today.

Tutoring review by Erin in Sausalito, CA
The student and I reviewed all the concepts he got wrong on his pre-test to make sure he understood why he got them wrong (which he did immediately on all concepts with very little review needed). We went over a wide breadth of problems, including ones on order of operations, working with fractions, converting decimals to fractions and vice versa, and we spent a lot of time working through problems involving the Pythagorean Theorem. He was struggling a bit with figuring out how to solve for the different variables in the theorem at first, but after walking through a number of problems with him step-by-step, he mastered it quickly. The mistakes I caught were little ones, and he seemed to understand all of the big concepts without any struggle.

The concepts we covered this session include transformations from a parabola with a vertex of (0,0). We went over the values in equations a, h, and k. We also went over how to describe the transformations and graph them. The student had an assignment on transformations that we worked on together. She seemed to have a good understanding on the concept after a couple problems but there are still some important algebra skills she has not been completely comfortable with thus far. She is getting there though! We also did drills on those concepts and others that she is comfortable with. I see a lot of understanding and improvement!

Tutoring review by Christopher in Sausalito, CA
The student and I started out by focusing on graphing lines from linear equations using tables and solving for x, and worked on some practice problems on the topic. Then, we graphed lines using the y=mx+b formula, learning the y-intercept and slope from the formula, and completed some practice problems. We closed the session by working on some practice problems for his high school entrance exam. He is very smart and engaged, and it's been a pleasure working with him
