Tutoring review by Angela in Damascus, OR
The student had a Math homework worksheet to complete involving word problems. We reviewed it together, and I showed him techniques he can use in the future. He has quite a bit of initiative and doesn't wait for my prompting to work, which is wonderful. Next we worked on adding equations. We reviewed terms like "went away" in word problems and reviewed when to add and when to subtract. We also did some verbal addition and subtraction and used manipulatives to get the answer. I taught him that when adding, it's best to start with the larger number then add the smaller number to it. I also showed him the technique where you put the larger number "on your head" then count up from there to add.

今天我们开始复习的顺序工作ons. We spent much of the session practicing addition and subtraction of decimals. I drew analogies to addition and subtraction with whole numbers, which I think helped (ex. 1.00-0.75 is like 100 - 75). He seemed to have a decent grasp on the concept after a while. We also went over how zeroes after the decimal point do not affect the number ( ex. 0.8=0.80=0.800). We ended the session with some review of previous material.
