Tutoring review by Raymond in Elmsford, NY
Today we went over material from chapter 10 - estimates of confidence. This was in preparation for an exam on Monday of next week. We covered everything in the chapter, sampling distributions, proportions, and means in the context of confidence intervals. We also went through some conceptual questions relating to different types of bias as well as the underlying assumptions in estimates of confidence. The student has the material down. I'd expect that he does well on his exam.

The student and I discussed factoring polynomials, covering practice problems that I prepared in advance. Although there were some concepts to iron out, by the end of the session, he had a very clear understanding of the material. It was a very productive session.

We covered solving, simplifying, and graphing rational expressions. There were only a few points to clarify; otherwise he seems to have a good grasp of the material.

Today, 4/20, the student and I started with mathematics followed by biology. In mathematics, we reviewed transformations- dilations, translations, reflections, and rotations. We proceeded to work through the student's review packet. We ended today's session with a review of genetic material- DNA, RNA, nucleotides, etc. Overall, the student did very well!

The student and I focused on fractions today, as she has a test coming up next week. We went over all of her homework and workbook pages that she had completed last week and worked through a few problems that she hadn't quite figured out. I think she has a decent understanding of how to find common denominators and compare fractions, but she sometimes forgets the steps. I think some extra practice before her test could be very helpful. I sent her mom a review packet to work on over the weekend.

Today we covered Chapter 13 of the student's Micro course. This chapter focused on Perfect Competition with detailed analysis of Average Costs, Marginal Costs, and their interaction in both a single firm and the greater market of a product. We worked through problems that practiced both computation and graphing. As always, she was attentive and learned quickly. We did additional practice on some of the more confusing topics (for example profit and loss on a graph). I recommended that she read some of these harder sections again in the book to solidify her understanding. She seemed to pick up even these more difficult topics in no time!
