Today the student and I had our first meeting. It was a pleasure helping her with her Chemistry work. There were a couple problems she was a little confused on, which we cleared up. The topics were enthalpy, and change in energy of formation and decomposition of molecules. We will be meeting again, next Tuesday at 11:00 am, to cover material for the final exam.

Today was our last day before the student's assessment test tomorrow. I feel like he has made considerable progress. Last Friday, I brought him a printed copy of a practice test, since he doesn't have a printer. On Sunday we took the practice test together. I think he is smart enough to where he would be more than ready for his test.

Today, the student and I worked on verbs. Specifically, we discussed the three principles parts of verbs, three simple verb tenses (past, present, future), and began to discuss the meaning of "perfect" tenses in general and the present perfect in particular.

The student and I reviewed his summary of the book and worked on simplifying the details and including background explanations. However, as we discussed the purpose of the assignment, he seemed to understand. When I reviewed his work with him, he did very well at identifying unnecessary details. Together, we created an outline for a second draft of the summary. Although this was a tough assignment, he did well. He began writing the draft and will finish it before we meet again.

During this session, the student and I went over the plan for his future lessons. We also went over some grammar in Spanish and did some reading. For homework, I assigned the student to write an essay in English to evaluate his writing and help him out with it. He will also review chapter 1 of the Spanish grammar book I let him borrow. It was a very productive first session, the student seemed very enthusiastic about our study plan.
