I am a freshman at the University of Texas at Austin. I am a Public Health major and on the pre-med track. At the beginning of this school year, I started mentoring four high school girls regarding their college essays. I am proud to have helped these girls shape their essays to show universities their aspirations and wonderful personalities. I began mentoring and tutoring students because I wanted to show students that there are multiple ways to achieve your goals. When I was in high school doing SAT prep, I was taught that there is only one efficient way to solve math equations, read through passages, and answer the questions. However, not all those techniques worked for me. My teaching philosophy is to teach students other ways to tackle the problem if they are struggling. I acknowledge that everyone does not learn the same way and I plan on developing a study plan that best fits the way the student learns. I believe that this makes me a good tutor. While I tutor a wide range of subjects in math, science, social studies, academic writing, and college applications, my personal favorites are statistics and research. Apart from school, I enjoy research. I have written research paper about the high maternal mortality rate in the United States and racial disparities in patient care. I have been selected to join a research stream that specializes in discovering drugs for Type I, II, and III pathogens and I am really excited to start this program spring semester.
