What is your teaching philosophy?
Find out first where the student is coming from; by this, I mean how much does the student know; then, I try to find a meeting ground.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
We try to get to know ourselves, give assurance by building up his /her confidence that my presence is to help, and emphasize that we are all learning.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Let him/her know that learning has no end. One day, whether he/she likes it or not, he/she will teach at least his/her children.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Keep appreciating him where he is doing well, and encourage him when he needs to work harder.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Repeat it by letting him to know nothing is impossible once the interest is there.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Continuous practice, and reading loudly to himself even when nobody is around. Usually, memorizing about 3 words together and reading slowly.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Learning by concept.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Applaud or appreciate anything he does correctly.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Get their feedback.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
After each topic, there must be a test.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
After feedback, go through the incorrect ones together. The weak ones need to be addressed.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
Tailor your style and method towards his/her needs.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
A mixture of theory and practical demonstrations.
