What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would use techniques that would be beneficial to my student by first seeing which way they learn best. If they are a visual learner, like things condensed, auditory learner, or note learner I would choose techniques that pertain to them.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I would evaluate one of my student's needs by giving them material on the subject they are struggling with, and see where they're at with it. I would also talk to them, and they can normally tell you what is difficult for them.
