I specialize in various Math subjects such as Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, etc. I love tutoring and it's been a hobby and a profession of mine for over 4 years now. I have tutored over 600 sessions in my lifetime so I have a lot of tutoring experience. I've tutored students from elementary school all the way up to college students. Not only am I a tutor, I am also a full-time college student on my way to getting a bachelors degree in Business! Outside of school and academics, I like playing baseball, basketball, football, card games, chess, checkers, pool, and bowling. I'm a numbers man. Math comes so natural to me, that I have come up with my own shortcuts in solving equations and math problems. It is not just a job for me! This is what I love doing!

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

Every student can be taught any subject. It is how you present the information that makes the difference between an A and a C. And every student is different. So, I teach the student to their style of learning. Nothing is better than learning in the most comprehensible way. That is why I'm here!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I will first ask the student to attempt the problem. Once they get to a point we're they are stuck, we can continue from that point on. We then resolve those issues using the student's method of problem solving.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

During the session, I will help the student not just learn how to solve the problems, but to understand how they can apply it logically so they can refer to the technique in a real life scenario.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I will encourage them because there is no impossible task. If it can be solved, then we can achieve it.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I will relate the subject to something they love to do. I can show them a method that can facilitate the problem. I can logically break down the problem for them.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I will fundamentally break the problem down. I will emphasize context clues and keywords in order to interpret the information given.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

There are several strategies that can be done and no one strategy is the best for every student. Students tend to do better when they can apply the strategy to their method of problem solving.

你将如何帮助学生获得兴奋/ w订婚吗ith a subject that they are struggling in?

I can show them a fun way to learn the subject matter. We can use acronyms and rhymes that can encourage them to learn it faster and easier. And when you're having fun, you get excited about the subject. You are now more engaged in the subject after doing it in a fun way.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I will keep asking the student if they have a question after an explanation to a step that we take towards problem solving. This way, the student would have an in-depth comprehension of each step in solving the problem.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

After explaining to students the steps we have to take in solving the problem, I will ask them why we would do each step so we both can confirm the student's comprehension towards the subject. Thus, this makes the student more confident when confronted with a problem.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I start by asking them to start the problem out and do as much of the problem they can for me. Once the student gets to a point where they can't solve it any further, then we can see where the problem persists and we can then take steps into teaching them the "how" to do the rest of the task.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I adapt to the student based on their method of learning. If there is a preference in which the student learns, I adapt to that style of teaching. If the student has trouble understanding the problem with a certain approach, I would change my approach as needed. There are many angles we can use to tackle a problem, and I am determined to find the best angle that suits the student's needs.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I use anything and everything we can get our hands on. Video/audio with the whiteboard, fraction tools, text tools, shapes, colors to emphasize different points, etc. The more senses we use, the more engaged we are and the better the learning experience for the student.
