Tutoring review by Kristopher in Bridgeville, PA
We primarily reviewed an upcoming homework assignment. The concepts covered included a review of relative frequencies and cumulative relative frequencies, which we covered in week 1. We also examined measures of central tendency and measures of spread. The student appears to understand the concepts reviewed. She had some initial trouble with one part of the assignment where we explored how the data would change if an error was made in a value included in a dataset. However, after reviewing what we were attempting to achieve with this exercise, she appeared to be clear on the utility of this particular thought problem.

Tutoring review by Laura in Bridgeville, PA
The student started preparing for his final exam in chemistry. He had several concepts from Unit 9 that he was still weak in. In addition, he was given several final exam review packets to complete. In order to make sure that he understood all of the concepts for his final exam, we worked on Unit 9 in our session. He completed worksheets that he received in class on equilibrium, molecular formula calculation, empirical formula calculation, and titrations. The student agreed to complete all of the review packets on his own throughout the week. He is supposed to attempt all of the problems on his own in the review packets. At our next session I will grade the review packets and we will cover all of the topics where he shows weakness.

We have now completed going over the student's finals review packet. At this point, he needs to practice more problems and I will be sending him an email over the weekend with many more examples for him to work through. He gets most of the material, but he gets confused sometimes as to what formula/rule/approach to use for solving different types of problems, and I think this is something that can be clarified for him by working through more examples on his own. He also needs to make sure that he is able to remember the most important formulas/properties. I have strongly suggested that at the beginning of the exam that he write down every thing he can remember about special right triangles/SohCahToa/Pythagorean Theorem/circles/arcs/etc. to use as a reference point if he ever gets stuck during the final.

Tutoring review by Kimberly in Bridgeville, PA
I created practice problems for the student that focused on the math topics he was learning in class: finding greatest common factor, factoring out greatest common factor, and factoring. I will prepare a times table chart so he can start to memorize some of the facts. I left him with four more problems that we will go over in our next session.

Tutoring review by Gabriel in Bridgeville, PA
Today's session was focused on helping the student with her vocabulary which was done online. I then went on to check her math homework which is the start of algebra material. I was very pleased to hear that she made an A on her Sphinx paper and I look forward to her next project that we can tackle and get another A.

Tutoring review by Jerilynn in Bridgeville, PA
We practiced simplifying trigonometric expressions in order to prove various equations and trigonometric identities. We went through a few that were fairly simple once we converted everything into sines and cosines. We mainly focused on the harder equation proofs that required some kind of factoring since that is what the student was most unsure about. We reviewed factoring addition and subtraction of perfect cubes, simple polynomial factoring of three terms, the difference of squares, and factoring out the same binomial from both halves of a four term polynomial. She is very confident using the Pythagorean trig identities and simplifying the fractions created by converting everything into sines and cosines, and she is getting better at recognizing when to use factoring and remembering the various factoring techniques from algebra.
