I am a rising sophomore at Harvard College, currently on leave for the semester. I am a B.A. candidate in mathematics and physics, and I have both professional and academic experience in computer science as well.

I am passionate about mathematics, and I have been tutoring students and peers of varying ages and abilities in math for about 7 years now. Further, I was a TA for the AP Calculus AB and BC classes in high school from my sophomore year through senior year. I have a deep interest in logical deduction and the general art of mathematical problem solving; however, it is often easy for busy students and even teachers running behind schedule to allow the reasoning and deduction to fall by the wayside in favor of a memorized algorithm for solving certain problems.

Fundamentally, mathematics is an art of deriving new knowledge from what we already know, so my philosophy for teaching and tutoring mathematics is primarily concerned with the "why" of problems. The quadratic formula is useful, but if you cannot derive it, then you do not truly understand it. There are simply too many problems in mathematics to memorize solutions to all of them. Therefore, my goal as a tutor is not to throw new information at you, but rather to equip you with the logical and deductive skills to solve problems on your own, even if you have never seen the problem before.

Outside the classroom, I am an amateur composer and musician. I primarily play the piano, but I also recently began to learn the theremin! I also love basically every aspect of computers, and I am especially interested in the blossoming fields of Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Computing, one of which I hope to research professionally someday.
