Hampton ACT Tutoring FAQ
The ACT (formerly American College Testing) assessment is one of a number of standardized examinations that seeks to measure a student's abilities in many subject areas. The test is typically taken by high school juniors and seniors who sit for the test and send their results to colleges as part of their application. Colleges then use ACT scores as part of their admissions process to determine who is admitted each year. Students seeking ACT tutoring in Hampton, VA, can get assistance in locating an independent tutor from Varsity Tutors.
The ACT is administered in five different sections that are all given a definite number of minutes in which to be completed. There is a mathematics section, which includes questions from pre-algebra, algebra, trigonometry, and geometry. This section is given one hour. The English section lasts for 45 minutes and covers grammar and usage of the language and rhetorical skills. The so-called reading section of the test includes questions from a number of subjects, including social studies, humanities, and natural sciences. This section is allotted 35 minutes of time, as is the science section, which focuses on a number of questions regarding data, research, and conflicting viewpoints. If you elect to complete the optional writing section, you are given 40 minutes to provide your own position on a writing prompt provided to you. In all, if you sit for the ACT, you will be testing for two hours and 55 minutes (with the writing section, testing time stretches to three hours and 35 minutes). You could receive a composite score from 1-36.
