Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that ALL students can learn. It is my responsibility to find the best way to teach that child and help them grow to their highest potential!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would ask questions about the purpose of the tutoring session, ask the way the student learns, and one thing that the student likes to do for fun.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By teaching them the skills they need to be successful and confident once they are working on their own.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I am their cheerleader! I am the person on the sideline calling out words of encouragement and keeping them motivated.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I adapt my teaching style to best meet their needs. I may modify an assignment, scaffold it, or teach it in a different way. This would depend on what the student needs in order to be successful.

你如何帮助学生结构是谁ggling with reading comprehension?

Teach them the skills they need to find the answers in the text. Modeling these skills and practicing them together so that when it is time for them to start reading by themselves they are more confident readers.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Bond with the student. Show them that you authentically care about them as a person and a learner. Teach them the way that they feel the most comfortable learning.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Songs, dances, rubber ducks, stickers, funny sayings, jokes, teaching them to be successful, overcoming the struggles.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

A good teacher always stops and checks to make sure that the students understand the concepts. This could be an oral question, a written question, a writing prompt, multiple choice questions, asking them to explain their thinking, etc.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Scaffold understanding, work with them, and show them that they can be successful in that subject. Cheering them all along the way!

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I ask parent's inputs to see where they are struggling. I see where the student struggles when we work together and find a way to modify whatever we are working on to meet the needs of the students.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I do whatever needs to be done to make sure the student is successful. This may look like finding funny songs to help them remember or drawing a picture to help them understand a math problem.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Anything that I need to help get my point across. Books, real life examples, videos, music, pictures, whiteboards, etc.
