Medicine has been a major force in my life every since my mother was
diagnosed with breast cancer when I was in my teens. She underwent
numerous rounds of chemotherapy, radiation and eventually a surgery, which
took a toll on her and my whole family. I watched her battle cancer like a
champion. I was amazed by the positive impact the modern day technology,
science and medicine had on her quality of life. She is cancer free today and strong
as ever. This is what first drew my attention to medicine.

As a college student, I majored in Biology and Psychology with hopes to pursue
medicine. Along the way I learned my passion to teach which initially started as a
Biology peer tutor in my sophomore year of college. I thoroughly enjoyed learning
and sharing my knowledge with other students to help them excel in their classes.
Soon after I graduated from undergraduate, I continued my passion to teach with
Varsity Tutoring back in 2014 where I tutored middle school children with Math
and Science. In medical school, I worked as a tutor to incoming students in
Anatomy and Physiology.

I also received the opportunity to teach and share my knowledge during a
medical mission trip to India that focused on medically underserved populations
and their families. In this role, I was able to provide comprehensive medical care
in the newborn nursery and pediatric urgent care. Further, I stepped into the role of
counselor and instructed the families on teaching the child healthy habits and
providing information on nutritious diets, vaccinating, and proper weight
maintenance.

In addition, during a summer internship in Thailand, I had the unique opportunity
to learn and teach both Western and Eastern-style medicine in a diverse practice
setting. Having the experience of both educator and practitioner to a variety of
student and patient populations, I have been able to strengthen my teaching,
communication, and technical skills, all critical to strong performance in being
both a tutor and a physician. Now as a third year medical resident, I take great
pleasure in teaching my medical students in variety of medial pathologies and
diagnoses. Teaching is an essential skill I will need in my career going forward
whether it be teaching medical students or counseling my own patients and I hope
to continue my passion to teach as a tutor at Varsity tutoring.
