Tutoring review by Patricia in El Segundo, CA
We began the session playing a card game to practice multiplication facts. I also had the student practice multiplication facts using an online game. Multiplication facts are something that needs to be reinforced to increase her speed in knowing these facts and avoiding mistakes in other work that she does. She indicated that they had finished their work on LCD and were moving on to dividing fractions. We reviewed how to divide fractions, and the student completed a worksheet. We played an online fraction division game. She is always cooperative. We talked briefly about keeping her work neat and lined up to help avoid making mistakes.

The student got all assigned HW problems correct and had no questions. Lesson 8 was: Polynomials and Graphing Linear Equations with the Slope Intercept Method. We watched the video, then she completed the practice problems and all even numbers from Problem Set 8. We began working on Lesson 9--Percent Word Problems. For HW, she will complete Problem Set 9 # 1, 3, 5, 7, so that all word problems will be attempted. On Wednesday we will continue working on Problem Set 9.

Tutoring review by Brian in El Segundo, CA
Today the student began a practice placement exam with the goal of identifying concepts that need review. He does well with numerical problems, even if they are complex. He does well when the problems are computational. Specifically, he has difficulty with word problems, nontraditional shape problems, prime factorizations/LCM, and extrapolating angle measures. Overall most of his answers were correct. We will focus on review areas moving forward.

Tutoring review by Bryce in El Segundo, CA
This session, we began with flash cards as we often do. The student is now able to rifle through her flashcards with pictures on them very quickly, including the ones that she made a couple of weeks ago. She requested that we do some spelling, so I gave her some words with various consonant blends. For the first few words, she would either omit the vowel, or use the wrong one. I had us stop, and we went over the letter flashcards, which we had not done since the first session. I emphasized the fact that she knows all her letters and the sounds they make, so if she slows down, she doesn't need to try to guess, because she knows what sounds the vowels make. We ended the session with buddy reading "My 'O' Book."
