I have been working in the school district for some time now as a math tutor and a substitute teacher. I have worked with grades K-12.
Prior to my school experience I worked for an organization where I was responsible for mentoring high school seniors who were about to graduate and weren't going to go off to college. I was responsible for teaching them soft skills such as creating a resume, applying for jobs, and preparing for interviews.

I have enjoyed the classroom environment so much that it has inspired me to become a full time teacher. I am currently in the process of obtaining my teacher's license.

我喜欢与孩子和我试着合作make the learning process as enjoyable and fun as possible. I look forward to working with you.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would take some time to tell the student about myself and get to learn about the student. It's important to build a rapport and break the ice.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Through my tutoring experience in the school district, we teach students how to go about solving the question - not just giving the students the answer. We teach the students how to think analytically and how to go about getting the answers even if they don't know how to solve the answer.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I like to make learning fun. In addition to a student's own success, I like to reward students for a job well done.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would take the time to sit with the student and see where they are having difficulty. I would be very patient and go over the subject matter until the student had a good grasp of the topic.

I know reading comprehension can be a tricky subject. I would go over the passage with students, and we would underline all key ideas in the passage. I believe through practice, one's reading comprehension will improve.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I like to dive right into the subject matter and get started. Once I have a better understanding of what the student needs help with, we'd start from the bottom and work our way up. I like to build a foundation block to learn. This is especially helpful in math where one concept builds on another.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would like to make it very interesting and as fun as possible. I would try to make a game out of the subject matter so that the topic would be more interesting and easier to learn.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would ask the student a lot of questions to make sure they understood the subject matter.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I would work with the student until they mastered the topic. Once they see they can do it, that would help them gain a lot of confidence on their own. Also, as they were learning, I would be very patient and encouraging along the way.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

By talking and working with the student during the initial stages to see where their strengths and weaknesses lie.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Based on what the students needs are, I would create the tutorial session accordingly.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I would use a notebook, pen, and pencil etc. I also would like to have any study materials the student uses in school.
