Teaching has been an important part of my life since I was young. I began teaching ESL and violin lessons when I was fourteen, and soon expanded into tutoring German students in French and English. A few years later, I added voice lessons to my roster, which has been my main teaching focus ever since. I have two years of classroom experience teaching choir and drama, and when I became a mom, I homeschooled all three of my children, personally taught almost all of their classes and edited all of their college essays. Two of them have graduated so far, and both scored over 1300 on the SAT and have received tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships to the colleges of their choices. All three of them speak at least two languages. I am currently teaching French to a group of homeschooled young ladies in a coop that I have designed myself. I also had the privilege of teaching ESL online to Chinese children for almost two years before that format became illegal in China. Altogether, I've been a teacher for over 30 years, and I have loved every student I have met along the way, from energetic three-year-olds to 80-year-olds who are just as good at having fun!
至于我的资格,我是一个native speaker of both English and German--I like to joke that English is my mother tongue and German is my father tongue. I was born in the US but moved to Germany when I was very young and received my Abitur (German diploma roughly equivalent to the IB) with honors. My "majors" in my final two years of secondary school were English and French. After high school, I returned to the US, where I received my bachelor's degree summa com laude in Music and French at Greenville University (Greenville, IL), and then received my master's degree in Vocal Performance with special musical honors from the Indiana Jacobs School of Music. I performed professionally in New York, Chicago, Europe, South America and Israel before starting a family but since then have focused more on teaching. My students have excelled in a variety of venues, from performing as soloists in national choruses, leads in musicals and receiving high finishes at state competitions, to studying voice on scholarship at a variety of universities.
