Greetings, Students and Parents!

My name is Ms. LaWanda Buendia. I am a former Tennessee certified high school Spanish educator and part-time college adjunct instructor. I believe that students should be taught in an authentic learning environment (i.e., hands-on-experiences, submersion into the subject as it relates to everyday life). The most important technique to being a phenomenal teacher, tutor, or mentor is to tailor the lesson to not only address educational deficiencies but to use the student's strengths to build upon subject mastery.

Currently, I am pursuing my doctoral degree from Northcentral University in Philosophy of Psychology with specialization in gender fluidity and sexual orientation. I received my M.A.ed from Union University with concentration in Education. I earned my B.S. Degree from Austin Peay State University in 1995 with a major in Political Science and a minor in Spanish. I studied Spanish in Cuernava, Morelos, Mexico in the Summer of 1995.

I look forward to tutoring each and every student assigned to me. I will be more than just a tutor. I will be a kind voice of support and encouragement during the "Ah ha" moments, as well as the "I give up" ones! Through teamwork between the tutors, students, parents or guardians, schools, and Varsity Tutors' support staff, we will cross the finish line.
