I am passionate about teaching because my enthusiasm for learning will have a direct influence on student motivation and achievement. Passionate teaching influences positive engagement that allows students to feel emotionally alive and safe in the classroom. I have a passion for autonomous learning that contributes to students becoming responsible and productive citizens.
获得我的同事的艺术教育rom Georgia Military College, I first started my career in education teaching preschool. I earned a bachelor's degree in General Studies, with an emphasis in Biological Sciences and Psychology and earned a Master of Education from William Carey University. I taught fifth grade social studies and reading for one year. I then taught sixth grade mathematics, science, and social studies four years. Since then, I have been teaching high school for the past ten years. I have taught biology, botany, environmental science, physical science, marine and aquatic science, and zoology. All the courses I teach are laboratory-based science courses. I was a sixth grade and high school Science Olympiad coach for five years. I also was a Senior Beta Club sponsor five years. Presently I am in my second year of study in the Educational Administration, P-12, Ph.D. program at The University of Southern Mississippi.
The subjects that I tutor and teach are ACT preparation, biological sciences, introductory physical sciences, social studies, study skills, reading, and leadership. My two favorite subjects to teach are science and reading because I love learning about how living things grow and flourish. I love reading about new ideas and interesting stories about animals, people, and history!
My teaching philosophy focuses on life-long learning. I consider myself a "Lead Learner". I model, guide, and enhance the learning conditions of an educational environment and continuously learn and implement the most current teaching strategies. I use close-reading strategies in all courses to achieve deep understanding of the text. I was trained with other like-minded educators in The POGIL project to be a reflective educator who designs, implements, assesses, and studies learner environments. POGIL, a teaching pedagogy make students feel engaged, accomplished, and empowered. POGIL is Processed Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning. I have implemented the POGIL process in my science classroom and it has deepened and refined student learning. I implement intervention strategies to promote understanding and learning for struggling students to achieve academic growth.
