I am a proud graduate of Hampton University, Loyola College of Maryland, and the Chicago Theological Seminary. I have obtained my B.A. in English Arts, M.Ed. in School Counseling, and a M.Div. in Theology. During my twenty-two-year career in urban public education, I served as classroom educator for grades three and eight; a professional school counselor, supervisor of Professional School-Based Counselors, and Educational Opportunity Fund Counselor at Passaic County Community College. Instilling a sense of pride and possibility in my students has always been my mission. My experience working with students was one where they took priority. Oftentimes, my students were not performing on grade-level, causing me to break lessons and skills down to their point of understanding (working with lower-grade colleagues on how best to meet their needs). Differentiated instruction was a great opportunity for this to happen, as I was able to group students according to their level, while keeping all students engaged on the same lesson/task. As a result of this pandemic, it is my desire to assist my community by bridging the gap as it relates to the impact of COVID-19. My teaching philosophy is that all students can learn and achieve. Listening, hearing, and developing a solid relationship are integral to this happening. My tutoring style is to create a relaxed, yet engaging atmosphere where the learner is in control. I enjoy allowing the learner to take on the role of educator, allowing me to gain insight of their strength and weakness; partnering together to reach our final goal. Patience is a virtue in this setting. Outside of tutoring, community building and ministry are my main interests. My goal in life is to help someone as I pass along life's way, so my living will not be in vain.
