我是一个大都会州立大学的研究生。I received a Bachelors of Behavioral Science with an emphasis in Cultural Anthropology. I also received my teaching license in Early Childhood Education K-3. Completion of my Linguistically Diverse Education and TESOL certifications added to my teaching portfolio. My teaching career lasted over 18 years and included classroom instruction in various grade levels. The majority of the years that I spent in the classroom were at a first grade level. The last four years of my career were as an ESL teacher instructing all K-8 ESL students; one on one, small group, and large group settings. During this time I was awarded the Teacher of the Year in the school district that I worked. Although I instructed students in all subject areas, I feel that reading is the basis of all academic learning. Therefore, I integrate reading into all subject areas and strive to foster a love for reading by tapping into a students personal interests and background knowledge. I believe that making connections to a student's personal experiences helps them not only to build comprehension but also become lifelong learners. Individualization of instruction is essential because all students learn differently and helping to identify their learning needs and interests is key to their success and confidence.
I loved my years with my students and learned as much from them as they did from me. Hopefully, I shared my love of learning with them as well as the importance of embracing each of our similarities and differences and how much we can learn from each other.
