学习使我兴奋。对知识的追求一直是我在教育、工作甚至业余时间的主要兴趣。在研究生院攻读硕士和博士学位的时光是我人生中最美好的时光。获得知识会产生分享的动力。帮助别人学习带来满足感。我教大学历史和文学已经三十多年了。我还教过青少年象棋二十多年。我需要把我学到的东西写下来。写作也是我教学的核心元素，我喜欢帮助别人学习写作。我在华盛顿州立大学获得了学士学位、硕士学位和博士学位，并在那里做了几年的教员。 Then, returning to my home town, I taught fifteen years at Whitworth University, and started coaching youth chess. For the past few years, I've taught at Eastern Washington University, where I also spent one year as a student many years ago. My training in history and literature is broad and continues to expand year by year. In my youth, I was interested in global history. I narrowed that for interdisciplinary study of North America in graduate school, and then broadened it again as teaching opportunities arose. Recently, I taught the global history of technology for a department of mechanical engineering. Some of my historical interests include the American West, European colonization, disease, technology, race relations, and of course the development of chess strategy. I enjoy teaching all of these and have done so many years.
