In a world where conflict is widespread, terror is rampant, and chaos is sweeping, I am the teacher who enables his students to pursue their dreams. For years, I have committed myself to helping thousands of young and adult learners set goals, make plans, self-monitor, and evaluate their progress. As a person, I value diversity; as an educator, I utilize diversity to make learning accessible for all.
Beginning at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia, I received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Art History and Studio Art. Academic areas, such as the History of Art, World and European History continue to be areas of interest for me as a learner and tutor. At Washington University in St. Louis, I began my teaching career while obtaining a Master's degree in Elementary Education (M.A.Ed.). After receiving my teaching certification in the state of Missouri for Grades 1-6, I relocated to Thailand as a Peace Corps volunteer, working as a Teacher Collaborator and Community Facilitator in local schools (Grades 1-8) and communities.
After returning to the States, I became a general classroom teacher for Grades 1-3 in Maplewood Richmond Heights School District. For six years, I wrote and implemented curriculum in math, science, reading, writing, grammar, and social studies. As a math and STEAM teacher at City Academy, I pioneered a cutting-edge curriculum that integrated interdisciplinary methods and technologies. As the current Instructional Coach at Confluence Academy--Old North (Grades Prek-8), I lead the math & science departments and mentor other teachers to plan high-quality lessons, execute the curriculum to fidelity, and hone their own craft for in-person, "hybrid," and virtual instruction.
After 12 years in education, I have learned that students of all ages learn best in a one-on-one setting, alongside a qualified and trained educator. Fortunately, my knowledge of the learning process, best instructional practices, and the network of schools around our region give me an expertise that has translated well into tutoring. Educational equity is at the core of my beliefs, and I will make it my duty to provide equal opportunity for all my students to succeedno matter where they are from or how differently they learn. Successful tutoring is a quality partnership, and I would love to partner with you.
For fun, I love to laugh above all! I am an avid reader and have a particular interest in fiction. I love kayaking, visiting art galleries and museums, and playing with my greyhound, Dogwood.
