I started playing viola in the fifth grade and I haven't put it down since!
I grew up in Dayton, Ohio and was fortunate enough to participate in the Dayton Philharmonic Junior Strings Orchestra and the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, as well as the University of Dayton Orchestra and Northmont Chamber Orchestra. I attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where I received my Bachelor's of Music in Education. I also served as the president of the Miami University Symphony Orchestra; historian, first vice president, and president of Mu chapter of Delta Omicron, an international professional music fraternity; and was a member of the Miami Choraliers, the ladies choir, with whom I travelled to Scotland and Ireland on tour. I completed my student teaching at Princeton Middle and High Schools in Cincinnati, Ohio, teaching grades 6-12 orchestra.
I worked as the general music and orchestra teacher at a K-8 school in Indiana for two years. I helped map the general music curriculum for the district and focused on using music to help my students learn more about the world outside of their very small town.
I spent five years working as the Music Program Director at Rhythm & Moves, a private education company in California that provides music and PE teachers to public and private schools all over the San Francisco, San Jose, and Oakland areas. I supervised the music staff as well as managed the curriculum and equipment that was provided for each teacher. I taught three days a week and spent two days working with other R&M Music teachers in their classrooms, mentoring and team-teaching. While in California, I achieved a Master's in Educational Leadership and Administration at Santa Clara University. I also currently serve as the Social Media Chair of Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity and I'm a Level 1 Google Certified Educator.
I spent a year teaching music in a public school before the pandemic, and was suddenly placed in a remote middle school social studies position in the 2020-21 school year. I realized how much I enjoyed teaching subjects outside of music, as well as the value of teaching online. I am so excited to able to reach a much wider range of students through this platform!
In addition to my passion for music, I have always liked history; in high school I worked at Carriage Hill Metro Park in Huber Heights, OH, a living history park with a working farm and house that are authentic to the 1880's. I am also a cast member at the Ohio Renaissance Festival as Cecily Bucket, one of the town luthiers and musicians.
3岁以来我一直在跳舞,分享我的爱love of movement! I've taken classes in pretty much everything from ballet to country line dancing to Hawaiian and Polynesian dance. I enjoy teaching both slow, mindful movement and fast-paced movement to raise our heart rates.
I have extensive experience in teaching social emotional learning and mindfulness/wellness courses, especially within music classes. I enjoy teaching mindful movement through yoga poses and helping connect the mind and body through the breath.
I especially enjoy teaching classes in which I can combine all of these passions! I find that students have a lot of success melding memory with motion, and tend to both enjoy and learn a lot more in a class that has a movement aspect to it.
