This approach broadens the ways a student understands a concept, allowing for analysis and questioning that is more authentic and effective for that student's understanding of a concept. This is an approach to learning that I picked up while working in Austin, and have used ever since, making learning situations more enjoyable in the moment and more likely to stick around after the immediate need for that knowledge. For me, I am always relating a new concept or topic back to what I know about architecture, structures, materials, and urban design because of my everyday work; but, also thinking about how they might play into music composition and production, film writing and creation, cooking and nutrition (gave me a whole new frame for chemistry and biology), and sports (there aren't too many physics questions that can't be visualized in soccer).
