I have a love for mathematics that started in grade school. All I ever wanted to be when I grew up was a math teacher. That goal never changed. I majored in mathematics and earned a B.S. Degree in mathematics at Oklahoma Baptist University. After I started my teaching career, I went back to school at night and in the summers to earn a M. ED. Degree in secondary education with an emphisis in mathematics at the University of Central Oklahoma. I also have gone back to school from time to time to pick up other courses in mathematics and education.

I taught math for 41 years. Twelve of those years were spent in grades 7 -12 in both public and private schools. The rest of the years teaching were in a community college both in the remedial maths and the college level math mostly with the algebras, geometry and the concept math classes aimed at pre-service elementary teachers. After retiring, I returned as a part-time teacher at the community college teaching our college learning strategies course for one year.

During my years of teaching mathematics, I found that all students did not learn in the same way. I tried to reach all the different learning styles in my classroom. I also saw that some students needed extra help. I often spent the time with them before school, during lunch, or after school. At the college, I tutored in the developmental lab during my office hours for several semesters. I was then based at a satellite campus of the college that did not have a Learning/Tutoring Center. I worked to hire tutors for mathematics and other subjects and from that start this satellite campus now has a Learning Center. I had also tutored while in college both through my college's tutoring program and as a private tutor.

While at the community college, I served in the leadership role for my college as part of a NSF- TBR-TPP grant for 4 years that was geared to help the professors better model the way math should be taught.

Besides a love for mathematics, I have great pleasure in quilting, knitting and tatting. All of which in some ways requires me to use my math skills.

I hope while tutoring I can help the student see the importance of the mathematics.
