My name is Shannon Bangert. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with a degree in Elementary Education. I am certified to teach grades 1-9 and nursery school thru grade 3. I am also a certified learning disability teacher for grades 1-9. I have been a private tutor for over 20 years and have been a public school instructor for teachers in the Orton Gillingham tutoring method. I was a former tutor and teacher for learning disabled students at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. I have taught classes at Wisconsin Lutheran College and utilized the Orton Gillingham Method. I also worked at the Wisconsin Institute of Learning Disabilities and Dyslexia. I am certified in the Orton Gillingham method which teaches individualized phonics instruction to remediate reading and spelling deficits. This program utilizes learning modalities: visual, auditory, and tactile. My goal is to improve, remediate, and enhance students reading and spelling skills while increasing comprehension. After I complete my initial assessment to determine each student needs I formulate an individualized program for each student. My goals are to have each student improve two or more grade levels in reading and spelling. I also will improve their self-esteem, academic grades, and their independence in reading. I also strive to improve their comprehension and increase their vocabulary. I do periodic testing to monitor each student's progress. I strive for optimal communication with parents and teachers regarding each student's progress. I feel I will enhance each student's ability to become a self-assured and independent reader and speller.
