I am currently a fourth year student at Emory University working towards completing my undergraduate degree, majoring in Chemistry and minoring in Mathematics. I have also been a Teaching Assistant for the General Chemistry 1 and 2 Lab's for the past 7 semesters. Mathematics has a perception of being difficult, boring, uninteresting, etc. I hope that my passion and knowledge about the subject will help my students not only understand the subject but break down the above perceptions they might have about the subject. I love the moments when a student lights up after a difficult concept finally sticks or when they tell me about how well they performed on their exam. These are moments I cherish from my tutoring experience and have allowed me to leave a lasting impact on my students impressions of mathematics.
I believe that tutoring is about engaging a student with the material by helping them become a person that does not just memorize a certain method or formula to regurgitate back on a exam but to strengthen their ability to think critically about a problem. In my tutoring I use the following approach to ensure the success of my students in content mastery: First, I assess the students knowledge of the material. Next, we go through section by section of concepts with explanation of concepts, writing down key information, practicing examples, and quizzing knowledge. Then, we outline important sections of the textbook, what to read for the course, and examples to study. Finally, we work through problems from the textbook (guided and self-solved) and provided insight about important techniques and rules to follow.
I have over 2 years of tutoring experience in Calculus (Single Variable and Multivariate), Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra. I have just recently completed my Mathematics Degree at Emory University and have a strong background in Chemistry. I am also certified by the ATP (American Tutoring Profession) as a Tutor that has logged over 200 hours of tutoring and CRLA (College Reading & Learning Association) Level 2 Tutor by Emory University .
I worked for Emory University's student tutoring program called EPASS, which is designed to provide content specific support while fostering the development of the independent learner for multiple subjects. These were the students who needed the most help and my tutoring services provided them the opportunity to not only hone there mathematics skills but also gain more confidence in their abilities which in turn led to their success in the course. Additionally, I have had a high turnover rate of students returning to me for tutoring in other math courses after succeeding in a previous course I tutored them in.
I truly believe that as a tutor my role is to serve my students to the best of my abilities and help them succeed as much as possible. Every student is important to me and that my role is to support my students academically by pushing them to think critically about the subject but also encouraging them to work hard. I encourage you to contact me if you would like any help in Mathematics. I am easy to reach and will always provide a fast response. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or if you would like to schedule a lesson with me.
