I am an experienced educator with 23 years in the teaching profession. I can diagram sentences, analyze Shakespeare, Woolf, Dickinson, and Thoreau. I can evaluate literary essays, research projects, and college admissions essays. I can lead/encourage a student to become a better writer, reader, thinker, and public speaker. These "talents" are not the most important components of me as an educator, though. I am a lifelong learner. I genuinely and earnestly become excited and animated about the learning process. I enjoy sharing my own passion and thirst for learning and knowledge with my students. I both encourage and challenge them to also become lifelong learners. It's a beautiful cycle to which we, as educators, are fortunate to contribute.

What is your teaching philosophy?

When starting to work with a student, I first like to meet the parent(s) and get a feel for their and the student's needs. I then start a simple conversation with the student about interests, strengths, and hobbies. That conversation eases any tension or anxiety and allows for a nice transition right into talking about school and then the lessons at hand.
