I hold a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston. I've worked as a martial arts and violin instructor in the past and as a classroom teacher now. I have experience working in classroom and one on one settings as an instructor.

I teach Life Science and beginning violinists.

I believe that quality education enriches a society by uplifting its individuals. I've had a passion for learning and teaching for as long as I can remember, and I'm very happy to engage in education now as a profession.

My method is to teach and develop learning as a skill alongside content mastery. Students who work with me can expect to gain the skills and knowledge to learn anything they wish independently in the future.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that before content is addressed, learners should be trained in skills and knowledge to improve their general ability to learn.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Lay out a crash course in pedagogy so that the student can be more actively involved in the process and methods of instruction.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help students become independent learners by training them in research-based methods for self-teaching.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

By involving their interests whenever possible, varying the form of instruction, and taking breaks when needed to avoid burn-out.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

一个ssess the student's learning readiness and employ appropriate accommodations.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

一个ssess the nature of the issue and teach a reading support technique they can use as needed.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Spend time establishing a dialogue. Get to know the student a bit and help them understand expectations.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Find a way to incorporate their interests or change up the form of the instruction to something more actively involved.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would use strategic questioning and would have them try and teach the material back to me.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I help them understand the process and where they stand. I find that students are more confident when they understand exactly how they can achieve their goals.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

By using formative assessments and targeted questioning to understand their learning readiness.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

By adapting the form of instruction based on their strengths, as well as accelerating, decelerating, or reviewing material as needed.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I typically use writing equipment, a guide for instruction topics, and some sort of reference material for the content.
