What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that as, a tutor, you have to keep trying with your student until they get it right. Everyone learns differently, and there is always a way.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would ask the student about how they are learning in school. I would talk to them about their class setting and about the way their teacher teaches them. Then I would ask about hobbies to see if the student is a visual, auditory, kinesthetic, or musical learner.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
By making learning fun with tricks, games, and rewards.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would analyze what I know about the student to see what other ways they can learn. Ex.: movies, YouTube videos, visually with candy... etc.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Always have a thesaurus by your side so that you can help the student figure out synonyms for the words. I would also break down the passage into sections.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I would try to compare it to something I know they would like. For example, music and math go together very well.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I found that if you relate everything back to a hobby, then they will understand the concept better.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I believe that if you give a student good strategies to practice and study with, they will eventually feel confident enough to become an independent student.
