Q & A

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

We'll go over your goals for tutoring and talk about where you envision yourself after learning.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By giving you the tools to interpret problems your own way!

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I design problems and projects based on things the student is interested in - relatable problems are much more motivating to solve.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

There are many ways to make a concept less confusing: I prefer to focus on one small aspect of a problem and encourage repeat practice of that problem, to build progress sequentially.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I firmly believe that every subject can be exciting! Once again, figuring out the student's interests, and building projects around those can really help to engage them with the material.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Creating small practice scenarios that test many skills at once.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

By repeating concepts in different ways and providing plenty of encouragement and praise.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I approach each student as a unique individual with a unique learning style: every session is adapted to the student's needs!

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Computer, pen and paper, art books, and videos.
