What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that teaching is about clearly conveying your messages to your students. It is important to make sure that you and your students have the same goals.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I will start my first session with an overview of the class, my teaching goals, content structure, and my teaching style.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Firstly, I will make sure that my students have the same objective as I do. Then, I will introduce my self-learning approaches and prepare materials for them to learn independently.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I will try to communicate with my students, make sure that we are on the same page, and adjust my teaching content and style to keep them motivated.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I will teach them how to read topic sentences and some tips to infer the writer's aim and attitude. Most importantly, I do not want them to feel stressed when doing reading tests.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Communication is the key.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
By starting from the easiest ones and establishing their confidence.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I will prepare review questions for them, and also homework/small quizzes.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Posing them questions and letting them answer them to test if they get the hang of it.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
By communicating with them to see their aim of studying.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I will try to satisfy a student's needs by changing teaching styles. For instance, from pure lecturing to more interactive discussions.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Mostly official guides and books. I will also prepare slides for certain courses.
