What is your teaching philosophy?

Immersion and practicality are my teaching philosophies. The best way to learn is by talking about things that you do in everyday life. Immersing yourself in the language is key. The more you speak and do, the better you learn.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would introduce myself and have them introduce themselves to me. I'd ask them questions about their day, their weekend plans, and help them through it in Spanish. Then, I would have them write me a small paragraph about what they want to accomplish. Maybe we could go to their favorite store or meet at a cafe. The world is our oyster!

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I would ask them to text or call me only in Spanish. I would have them watch movies in Spanish and teach them about the culture to pique their curiosity.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Never a lecture; let's go exploring! A walk on the beach, talks about trips one might take...thinking and talking about travel is a great way to stay motivated.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Slow down, take a deep breath, and break the sentences into sections... My job is to help explain what the reading is saying.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Patience! Pictures and videos are super helpful, too.
