我有an undergraduate degree from the University of Buffalo in Communication and a masters degree in Mathematics Education 7-12 from LIU Post. I have been tutoring for over 12 years in all areas of math and test prep. I started off tutoring when I was in college. Ever since then i found nothing but joy when I was able to help students succeed in their work. When I am not working I enjoy being outdoors, going to museums, sporting events and comedy shows. I really like to read an play just about any sport. Another hobby of mine is photography. I take pictures at all types of parties ranging from sweet sixteens to weddings.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is that I feel teachers need to be able to provide their students with comfort and support and make sure they feel safe when they are in your classroom. I believe the most effective way for students to learn is for them to be guided to practice the skills taught in class on their own. I also feel that it is important to use hands-on teaching and have students work in groups. I feel that students are, for the most part, visual learners and need to be shown what to do and not told what to do.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a first lesson with a student, I would want to get to know them and learn how they learn best. I would try and lean towards how the student would learn best. I would try and make sure the student feels comfortable with me. The more they feel comfortable, the more they will open up and give 100%.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help a student become an independent learner by showing him the techniques he or she will need to become one. I would show them how to take notes and flashcards to help test themselves.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

我将试着简单的分解问题terms. I would try and go to previous material to see if that was the cause of any of the difficulties. I would also try and see what exactly they were having difficulty with and build from there.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would have them make flashcards of the vocabulary words they do not understand. I would help break down the reading with them until they understood what they were reading.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I try and make sure I tutor the student to how they learn best, whether it's visually with examples or just reciting work.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I usually use the student's work, extra work I bring, work that the student is working on in school, a calculator, worksheets, etc..
