Many of the opportunities that have come our way is because of the education we have received coupled with those who have encouraged us along the way.

Moreover, I am determined to give back as much as I have received. My teachers have helped to shape my outlook on life.

Consequently, I firmly believe that I more than qualified to reciprocate the nurture and care that was given me during my classroom days.

Significantly, I am the head Sabbath school superintendent of my church, as the leader for the Sabbath school department I am responsible for coordinating the bible study, fellowship, community outreach and in-reach, along with world mission.

Moreover, this task allows me to deal with people and thus gives me a better understanding of how to satisfy the different needs of people.
The courses that I have applied for are areas that I have studied and have worked in. Therefore, I bring to the classroom, my own practical experience coupled with the theoretical knowledge I have.

Finally, I am an Instructor of English, Accounting, Personal and Professional Development at Manhattan School of Computer Technology. Because of my experience I am aware that teaching adults is quite different from teaching children. I shall be happy to get the opportunity to work with this organization.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I feel that every student can learn.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would get to know the student and, thereby, find out strengths and weaknesses.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I would use an integrated approach.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would first find out what motivates the student and dwell on those areas to keep the student motivated.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I use different strategies and instructional methods.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I use syllabication of words. Also, I identify where the difficulty lies and have the student restate the difficult sentence in their own words.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

It's helpful to have an understanding of the strong and weak areas of a student.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I will use the following differentiated instruction: scaffolding, graphic organization, mnemonics and multi-sensory instruction.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I use repetition and examples as well as review and sub-concept.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I praise their contribution, do not correct every mistake, set attainable goals, and express a positive attitude about their satisfaction with their progress.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I interpret data about the student then set objectives for the student to meet.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I would pre-teach difficult concepts.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I bring pens, pencils, classwork, homework, notebooks, questions and a positive attitude.
