My objective during our sessions begins with assessing your strengths and weaknesses academically to accommodate to your learning style. We will eventually develop a study habit to set your priority level for success. Also, we can find available resources online or at the library. The more you learn from other available resources, the more you can establish your style to learn and remember the material. Towards the last session, we will set a goal you would like to meet after your success.

I am currently a middle school math teacher for Hampton City Schools but love to tutor various subjects. I am in the process of completing my endorsement for Algebra I.

Math can be an extremely intimidating topic to learn if abstract ideas seem to accommodate to the math lovers only? I feel differently. Math is for anyone and everyone who wants to be successful and open their minds beyond three dimensions. I turn the abstract to concrete ideas, and work at your pace to learn the math you struggle to do. Let's develop a love for math and understand math in your own way. I look forward to working with you to become successful and appreciate math in a different manner.

I patiently and diligently work to plan the lesson according to your needs. I will make sure you understand the math in a concrete manner, yet challenge you to critically think of math in a different tone.

I have taken the ASVAB and scored a 70 without studying.

I am available after 4 P.M. Monday - Friday during the school year, and am available after 12 P.M. during summer school hours.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe in “I do, we do, you do.” I will demonstrate or explain first about the lesson. During the lesson, I will ask you a series of questions for assessing your understanding of the material. We will practice the problems together emphasizing how you would solve and improve on the mistakes. Then you will demonstrate on your own how to solve the problem with guidance after you have attempted the problem.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I will assess where you are mathematically to know where the next few sessions will go.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I will get to know what you enjoy, your goals, and your learning style. I will also observe how you respond to my first lesson as well as my teaching style, how I would like to teach you for further sessions, and what works well for your learning style to deliver the lesson.

公司如何ld you help a student stay motivated?

I emphasize the importance of education with maintaining a certain lifestyle, including college expectations and real world scenarios.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would have the student take time before the next lesson to practice through another available resource. By the next session, I will quiz the student upon his/her ability to perform the skill. If the student still struggles, I will approach the skill in a different manner such as using hands-on manipulatives or perhaps with a song or video to underline learning the basic skills.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I break the sentences up and highlight the important key words to help solve the problem.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Having a lesson plan ahead of time, fixing a routine with the student, and step-by-step problem solving skills for understanding the material.

公司如何ld you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I apply it to a topic the student particularly shows interest in and express the importance of that subject in that particular interest.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Quizzes, technology manipulations or online games and then monitor their progress, informal quizzes such as questions on the spot, review of the lesson at the end of the session.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Explain the necessities to learn from the topic, emphasize particular topics of the subject, relate the subjects in a real world fashion.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Prior experience, state standard of learning framework, and college experience.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Research on my own accord the different resources available to students, and create an activity or notes to peak their interest in the subject matter.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

My laptop, paper, pencil, different books I have collected geared to studying math outside textbooks, online resources, and cell phone apps.
