What is your teaching philosophy?
There is no subject that cannot be mastered. We simply need to find the way that you can master it.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would gauge your strengths and weakness on the subject matter. I want to know what you know, and where you need the most help.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By using the same method my Political Science teachers used on me. I will ask you questions, and help you learn what about your answers is correct and what we need to adjust.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Find out what does motivate them, and then use that to keep them going.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Find a way that subject could be related to something they already know.
如何帮助学生在r是谁eading comprehension?
By having them take breaks after each paragraph and explain to me what they read.
你发现什么策略最successful when you start to work with a student?
Talking to them about what they know, and where they feel they are struggling. Then quizzing them on their knowledge to make sure they know what they tell me they know.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
You need to relate it to something they are excited about. If you are struggling with geometry and algebra and love construction, then I am going to show you how those subjects work with construction.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I would create mini-quizzes for them to do before the end of our sessions, and give them material to review until our next session. I would also quiz them on that material.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
By praising them for even getting a partial answer. Tell them you have a right, but you are not quite there with b. Then push them to think on b.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
By asking them what they need. They are the best indicator of where the issue lies.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
由doing what is best for them. Learning is not a one size fits most. There are multiple way for individuals to learn something.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Normally I will use electronic material, as it is easier to handle. I will ask that the student has a notebook to take notes on if they do not already.
