Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

Every student has a different way of learning; there is no right or wrong way to succeed in education, rather, there are weaker and stronger methods that vary for each learner. With my approach to ensuring a solid tutoring experience, I will identify your needs, strengths, and weaknesses, to guarantee an effective and progressive learning experience.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

The first session is hands down the most important session for me as your tutor. We will talk about your strengths and weaknesses, what you are confident in doing, and what worries you. I will then use that vital information to construct a personalized learning plan. This will guarantee a strong and progressive learning approach for you, ensuring that we start off on the right level of learning. Whether beginner or expert, we will determine the best option for you to succeed!

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I will make sure that you are held accountable. You will have homework, that varies from different tasks, and assignments relating to your lesson. As we continue, and your confidence builds, we will incorporate real-life independent learning, that will challenge you to speak, read and write Spanish in a fully Spanish speaking environment. This will ensure that you feel confident to apply the Spanish skills you have learned in real-life situations, preparing you for any opportunity.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

我将有一个进度追踪,显示了多远you have come since day one. For example, at the beginning of every unit, I will have you record a video of you saying content in Spanish (content will vary based on level of learning). We will always review these progressive videos at the end of each unit, to show how far your confidence and knowledge has grown, and most importantly to keep you motivated throughout our time together.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I will always make sure that my student does not become discouraged because of the lack of success in a certain lesson, skill or concept. I will take the time to break down the lesson, and also to touch base with how the student feels about the lack of success in this particular lesson. Then, I will restore confidence in the student by assuring that they can in fact accomplish this small challenge, and to know that it is completely normal to struggle when learning a new language.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Again, depending on the level, we will break it down together. I will always ask you your thoughts on how you are feeling about your struggles, along with implementing reading comprehension based skill strengthening tasks.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

年代peaking with my students on the same level is the most successful part of my teaching experience. When a student feels as though they cannot admit lack of confidence throughout the learning process, failure is likely. I am always open to my students and encourage them to do the same, to ensure that I know exactly how they are feeling when building their lingual skills.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I always relate their worries or weaknesses with my own stories from the past. When my students know that I once struggled with my own language lessons, they will feel much more at ease, and feel excited to keep trying their best to learn the language.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

We will be using lots of content from my own classroom (online tutorials, worksheets, one on one conversational methods). However, at the end of every lesson, we will be going out into the "real world of Spanish" and applying the new skills and vocabulary to real life situations. Whether ordering coffee in Spanish at a cafe, or meeting other Spanish speaking students, the interactivity will absolutely tie everything together, piece by piece.
