I was born Tehran, Iran and moved to the US in 2009 to continue my education in environmental engineering. As a child, I was always interested in science and engineering. A great teacher in high school sparked my interest to study chemistry. During college years studying chemistry, my awareness about the environment grew until I decided to continue my education in environmental engineering. Being in school for a long time, I had many teachers that taught me not only science and math but also how to live and be a better person. I have learned from my teachers that patience and persistent are keys to success.

Q & A

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In the first session, I would like to go over the topics that you need to work on, see your previous homework and assignments, talk about your goals, and go over your schedule and see how much time you need to spend for each topic

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help you become an independent logical thinker.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

You are studying and working hard for your benefit. It is like an investment that you will benefit from in your whole lifetime. Remember no one knows all the answers. We are all students; some know more and some less. The key is to know what you are looking for, where to find it, and how to use. School teaches you how to do this. School cannot teach you everything. It teaches you HOW to do it.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Break it down into smaller pieces to understand the whole. In many instances, the difficulty in understanding something comes from not knowing clearly what you are being asked or not being able to find the information you need to solve a problem.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I recommend to read and record the text and listen to it a couple of times. Write down the words you do not know the meaning of and listen to your recording again.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Solve as many problem as you can and teach the concepts through solving example problems.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

If you struggle with a subject, it means that you might not know how it can help you achieve your final goal. You might also not find it interesting or useful. But keep in mind that you do not need to study that subject your whole life if you have other favorite subjects. However, you need to pass it to get to your goal.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would give you diagnostic questions to see your approach to solve the problem, to see if you know what the problem is asking for and what information is given. I would see I you can find the relationship between knowns and unknowns.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

我会帮助你找到一个真实世界的应用程序of the subject in order to have a tangible understanding why the topic is important.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I would talk to you and help you DEFINE your goals CLEARLY, and find a practical approach to reach it.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

It is not a one-size-fits-all. I would keep up with your pace of learning. There is no rush. But I will help you get faster, more efficient, and organized.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I will use example problems to be solved step by step by you. I will help you proceed to find the solution.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Success is 99% effort, persistence, and patience.
