I have been helping others with schoolwork my whole life. I enjoy working with people to help them understand problems and work their way through them. I have worked with learners of all ages- from elementary school students to adult learners, going back to school in their fifties and sixties. I believe that everyone can learn. I work with students to find the best way for them to get into the material.

I went to Hampshire College in western Massachussetts, studying social sciences. I took advanced math classes for fun. I specialize in tutoring math- from elementary to algebra, and in reading and writing. Outside of tutoring, I read a lot, write fiction, and spend time outdoors.

I work hard to meet the needs of anyone I work with. My goal is to get you to the place you want to be in your learning and to help you feel prepared for learning in the future.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that teaching should set a student up to keep learning in the future-- in always learning more about how to learn and to really understand a particular concept. I ask questions to help a student grow.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I want to know what the student's goals for our time together are: what are the areas they are struggling with and what material do they want or need to cover. Additionally it's important to know if there's anything that they know works or doesn't work for them as a student. We'll also get started on the material.
