I have always been passionate about writing, and I love to help others become more confident with critical reading, writing, and English, among other subjects! I graduated from a small liberal arts college near St. Louis where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with an environmental science and ecology focus. During college, I worked as a writing tutor to help students successfully navigate challenging writing assignments. I used various strategies to coach students with grammar, writing, structure, and style. In the years since I graduated, I have taught environmental science to groups of students visiting residential science centers. There are many effective ways to approach teaching, and I love using hands-on activities to teach concepts and engage students. I tutor English and Reading for Standardized Tests, test prep, environmental science, and more. A couple of my hobbies are dancing and traveling - I've visited Iceland, France, Switzerland, and Austria.

Q & A

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

During our first session, I like to get to know the student and understand where he/she is coming from. We'll talk about what should be the specific focus of our tutoring session. I might ask the student to take a short diagnostic test to determine what we should work on. We may go through a few practice problems together, or discuss and practice strategies for better test taking. I'll make sure the student feels good about what we've done during our first session, and we'll set up the next one!
