If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, I take a step back. I like to build the foundation of knowledge before adding more skills and concepts onto a shaky foundation.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Predicting allows the students to use their prior knowledge on the topic to get their brains thinking about what they might be reading about. Asking questions during reading enables students to critically think about what they have already read in the story. After reading I like to have students retell what they have read and make connections to their personal life, because it makes the story so much more memorable.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I build a student's confidence in a subject by starting with foundational knowledge that the student has already mastered. The student will have more confidence when starting new concepts if they have the foundational knowledge mastered.
