I am currently a Second Grade teacher at Palmetto Elementary School. I graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education. I began volunteering in various elementary schools around Orlando to help students harness their confidence and knowledge. The most rewarding part of tutoring a student is when I see their eyes light up and they understand the concept they have been struggling with. Throughout my tutoring and teaching experiences I have learned various ways to keep my students engaged and excited about learning. I have experience with Common Core and Singapore Math. Outside of teaching, I enjoy staying active by attending boot camps, running, and reading.

Q & A

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, I take a step back. I like to build the foundation of knowledge before adding more skills and concepts onto a shaky foundation.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

我帮助学生解决阅读有限公司mprehension by encouraging them to ask what might happen in the story just by reading the title. Predicting allows the students to use their prior knowledge on the topic to get their brains thinking about what they might be reading about. Asking questions during reading enables students to critically think about what they have already read in the story. After reading I like to have students retell what they have read and make connections to their personal life, because it makes the story so much more memorable.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I build a student's confidence in a subject by starting with foundational knowledge that the student has already mastered. The student will have more confidence when starting new concepts if they have the foundational knowledge mastered.
