I am from Venezuela, where I grew up speaking my mother tongue of Spanish. I received my bachelor's degree in International Relations from the Central University of Venezuela, and my master's degree in Technology Management from Tsing Hua University in Taiwan. I have have taught and tutored English and Spanish to students of all ages and backgrounds, from students in Venezuela and Mexico to those in Taiwan. In addition to English and Spanish, I also speak some Mandarin Chinese and Portuguese.

As part of my teaching method, I typically begin by first finding out what the needs of each of my students are, and then working with my students to exchange suggestions regarding teaching materials and learning styles. I like to keep my classes fun!

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

The purpose of education is not only learning the language, but also the culture. Learning Spanish cannot be a once a week activity, it should be integrated in your daily life, e.g. listening to music, watching a movie with subtitles in Spanish, having Spanish friends and trying to translate their Facebook statutes, among others. When teaching Spanish, I would want to submerge my students into the language, so what they see and say makes sense to them too, in spite of the grammatical differences that each language has.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would ask him what aspects of the language he is more interested in, for example the grammar, speaking, reading or listening. Also I would find out what he/she needs for: office, school, personal interest? And then I would discuss with the student what materials can be most effective
