I began studying French at a very young age and since then have been able to have
incredible experiences that allowed me to master this language. I spent a
year abroad in Lille, France where I conducted all my studies in French and also
taught English in a French Highschool. Consequently for my Undergraduate thesis
I translated the text 'Regarde les lumieres mon amour' by the well known French
contemporary author, Annie Ernaux, into English. The University of Denver was
then able to fund me to go to France and conduct an interview with Ernaux! I
believe that knowing other languages is a crucial skill that opens one's mind
to different cultures and different ways of understanding and expressing oneself.

In addition to French I also tutor Russian, English, and various IB/AP and test
related topics. In highscool I took both IB and AP tests and finished with the
IB diploma. On the SAT I received a 2290, with a score of 800 on the writing
section. I believe that test-taking is a skill which can be improved upon and
mastered. For whatever subject I tutor, I find that the most important thing
is to understand the structure of what one is studying and thus understand the
基础啊f the subject rather than memorizing the details. I believe that
studying smart is the most beneficial in the long run and I try to teach my
students how to study the smart way.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is based on two things: empathy and reciprocity. Basically that by communicating and understanding one another, both the tutor and the tutored will learn and benefit from their time together.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

During the first tutoring session I think it is important to establish the student's goals within the subject area, to identify strengths and weaknesses, and to start developing a plan on how to achieve the goals and work on the weaknesses.
