I graduated from Ithaca College with a degree in music education. After graduating I worked with a nonprofit organization called City Year where I worked as a tutor, mentor, and role model. Our mission was to work with students and create individualized curriculum to fill skill gaps and make sure students had the opportunity to be successful. I believe in putting in the extra time to make sure that I teach toward each student’s learning style. I understand that all students learn at different paces in different ways and make sure that each student is getting their best education. One-on-one tutoring situations are ideal for making sure that’s possible. I am patient, inquisitive, enthusiastic, and look forward to helping you reach your goals.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would help a student stay motivated by finding out what interests them and trying to relate it to the tutoring subject in some way.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would reteach the concept in a different way, breaking it down into smaller parts. Then, I'd have the student reteach the skill or concept to me to solidify their knowledge.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

The most successful strategy I have found is getting to know my student and building a trusting relationship. I like to find out what they like and don't like, what type of learner they are, and what their skill gaps are.
