I received my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Oklahoma Panhandle State University, my Master of Science in Education from Newman University, and am a Doctoral Candidate in Educational Administration from West Texas A & M. I enjoy tutoring middle school mathematics and high school mathematics with a focus on Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry 1, Algebra 2, and Trigonometry. I have also tutored SAT and ACT Math. What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe all students with various learning styles can achieve success with proper teaching methods in place. When students experience success, they learn and continue to grow.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

My typical first session would be getting acquainted with each other and getting to work on what we need to accomplish in our tutoring session.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By my example, by us doing it together, and by the student working on their own. I call it the "I do," "We do," "You do" method.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

By continuing to keep my attitude positive and upbeat, and ensuring the student experiences success in their learning.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would take the time and go over the problem again by breaking it down into smaller steps.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I help students who are struggling with reading comprehension by reading out loud to them and have them read out loud to me. After this, I would check reading comprehension. I would also provide them with tips like highlighting important information and breaking the reading down into segments.

The strategy that works well is the "I do," "We do," and "You do" approach.

I help students get excited/engaged with a subject they are struggling in by actively engaging them in the learning process.

"I do," "We do," "You do" method. I would break the problem down into steps with this method, and have the student explain to me their steps as well to check understanding.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

By putting them in a position to experience success in their learning as much as possible.

By checking their understanding and breaking the problem down again, if necessary.

I adapt my tutoring to the student's needs by paying attention to the student's learning style and teaching to it.
