I am from Australia, but living in Oklahoma now. I am a 7th and 8th Grade Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 teacher. I graduated from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration Management.
I am a certified teacher in Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Business Education. I tutored various students in college all who went on to graduate with exceptional results. I also tutor students at my school. Within two years of being a teacher, I have taken the Algebra 1 students from a pass rate of 60% the year before I was there, to having a 100% pass rate this past year. I love to motivate and inspire students to work hard in life so that they can be become very successful in their chosen lives. I love sports, especially baseball. Baseball was the reason I came to America. I love any sports really. I love watching movies, listening to music, and really love business in general.

Q & A

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Introduce myself and get to know a little about them. Also, get an idea of where they are in regards to their knowledge level.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Give them the motivation and tools needed to work hard.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Positive thinking and fun activities to do.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Take a step back and re-cover the material in a different manner.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Build relationships and trust with them. Then, show them that you want to help them succeed in their educational needs.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Find a way that they enjoy learning it. Either with manipulatives or games.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I like to get the student to explain how they came up with the answer they did. Usually, if they can explain how they got it, they will have arrived at the correct answer.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Slowly but steady. I like repetition. Especially with math, it helps tremendously.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I like to use subtle hints to find out what the student does and doesn't understand, which in turn leads me to knowing what the next step I need to take is.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I am someone who will never give up on a student, and I will work hard to find a way for the student to understand and master the material.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

我喜欢使用纸和笔,但有时我喜欢to get the counting blocks or other manipulatives out for the students to practice with.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Motivate and inspire students to work hard to become successful in their life goals.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I like to break things down into smaller parts so that we can work through it all, then slowly put it all together.
