I am excited to work with your student! I graduated from Florida State University last May with my Bachelor's degree in Women's Studies, and I returned to Miami to work with the education non-profit City Year Miami. City Year focuses on improving attendance, behavior, and coursework outcomes for students at low-performing schools. As a City Year interventionist, I had the privilege of working with ESOL students at Miami Carol City Senior High. I worked with my core group of students to improve pronunciation, vocabulary, and comprehension, but I also had the opportunity to interact with students from diverse subject areas during after-school tutoring. I helped students craft and edit essays, understand assigned reading, review Spanish language rules and applications, and overall create positive strategies for information retention. I have a huge passion for helping students achieve their personal and academic goals, and I try to be an example of that myself. This year I am preparing to apply to Master's degree programs in social work, and in the meantime I am continuing to provide tutoring services. On a personal note, I am Cuban-American, born and raised in Hialeah. I come from a family of educators, and their mentoring, combined with a scholarship to a college-prep high school, catapulted my success. I am incredibly grateful for those who provided support and encouragement along my academic journey, and I would be honored to play a part in yours!
